Review of “Running with Scissors” EP on FVMusicBlog

Thanks very much to Kris at FVMusicBlog for this cool review:

Hailing from Leatherhead, Dark Soul Safari has released his superb EP, ‘Running with Scissors’. It is an alternative-rock release that is filled with a lot of heart!

‘That’s How I Roll’ opens the release to a bright and inviting beginning. Luscious melodies ring out and invite the audience in. As the charismatic vocals enter, the listener is thoroughly engaged.

The title track has a darker feel with a slower tempo and takes the EP in a new direction. Also, we adore the engrossing lyrics that are underpinned by well-arranged strings.

‘Jim The Priest’ features an atmospheric opening before Dark Soul Safari takes the listener on a journey. There is a sinister undertone to an outwardly upbeat track. Finally, ‘Still Chasing Windmills’ closes the release, and it will have you reaching for the repeat button!

Dark Soul Safari (AKA Adriaan van Heerden) has teamed up with musician and producer Andy Brook on this superb release. Adriaan van Heerden says about the EP “The stark beauty of this desolate sonic landscape is exquisitely brought to life by Top 10 producer/engineer Andy Brook (Status Quo, Bonnie Tyler, Ginger Wildheart, Mel Gaynor, Tiger Lilies and many others).” Together, the duo have created an EP that will stand the test of time.

‘Running with Scissors’ is the debut EP from Adriaan van Heerden. He is a talented songwriter who grew up in South Africa, gained a PhD in Philosophy from Cambridge University and is also an award-winning international photographer. He is a multitalented artist pushing forward and making waves in 2022.

We are thrilled to have heard this superb EP, and we cannot wait to hear more from Adriaan van Heerden. Until then, ‘Running with Scissors’ is available to stream from this link; listen today, you will not be disappointed!
